COVER STORY-CORONAVIRUS

PA being proactive

Pennsylvania currently has no confirmed cases of a new coronavirus first recorded in China, but the state is taking steps to be prepared if it does. The state’s top health official held a press conference last Wednesday to discuss the steps being taken by the Department of Health to prepare for the possibility of the virus, officially known as “COVID-19,” spreading here.

    SPORTS – DISTRICT CHAMPTIONS
    Freedom boys take 6A title
Getting through the District 11 Class 6A boys’ basketball tournament can serve as barometer for the upcoming state tournament. Just ask Freedom and Northampton. The two staged the anticipated battle expected, but Freedom’s overall balanced proved to be the deciding factor in the Patriots’ 58-48 victory at Easton Area Middle School Saturday afternoon.

Becahi girls win fourth straight crown
Bethlehem Catholic’s girls’ basketball team won its fourth consecutive District XI Class 4A title after defeating Jim Thorpe, 48-31, on Saturday at Easton Area Middle School. “Anytime you can do anything four years says a lot about the players, the coaches, the parents,” said Becahi coach Jose Medina. “It was a great celebration for our kids and the program.”

    FOCUS
    In the beginning

Genesis was one of the great progressive rock bands. You have a rare chance to hear the band’s music in concert again. Steve Hackett, who was the band’s guitarist during what many consider to be the group’s creative peak, is bringing his solo work and Genesis’ “Selling England by the Pound” album to Allentown. The “Steve Hackett Genesis Revisited” concert is 7:30 p.m. March 12, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown.
